Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important representative stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
